Mozilla Firefox Browser User-interface and Tools Explained

The new Firefox v37.0.2 is an open source, free internet browser, which provides faster, secure and easier browsing experience to users. This wonderful web browser is developed by Mozilla organization, non-profitably shares this software to people. The private browsing and other security feature helps to protect your information and offers safe browsing throughout the network. It is one of the trusted web browsers than Google Chrome and Internet explorer. The above screenshot shows the startup page of Mozilla Firefox. It has a simple look, light colored theme on default with less complexity. The curvy tabs also look good and easier for reading the browsed content. In the old versions, Awesome bars which helps to quick access of tools in the firefox. In the new version, Awesome bar is completely eliminated and includes an additional sidebar contains the buttons for Cut, Copy, Paste, Zoom in&out, New window, Home, Save page, Print, Full screen, History, Find, Options, Add-ons, Sync, Customize, Help and Power button.

It automatically installs add-ons of antivirus, downloader’s, news etc on the sidebar. The menu bar is still just below the title bar, but it is hidden in between the URLbar and title bar. If you press on “Alt” on your keyboard, you see the old menu bar in the user-interface.

Mozilla Firefox Options

The options contains general, Tabs, Search, Content, Applications, Privacy, Security, Sync and advanced options.

General:-

Mozilla Firefox - General Options[/caption] The general options control the startup of firefox, in which you set the home page setup, location to save download files. By default home page contains Firefox Google search bar. You can set the favorite search engine or site URL in Home page section. For example, if you entered “www.google.com” when you open a new tab, automatically redirects to google search engine. If you want to reset, click on the “Restore to default” option. In downloads section, you can set the location on your harddrive to save the downloading files. If you set “Always ask me where to save files”, while click on download link, it will ask where to save the files.

Tabs:-


This section contains the managing of tabs. Here you can set the tabs related options like “open new windows in anew tab instead” which enables the new tab in while opening new window. Another option warns when you faultily close the multiple tabs, which helps to prevent sudden closure of multiple tabs. You can also select the “Don’t load tabs until selected”. If you need tabs preview on the windows task bar select “Show tab previews in windows taskbar”. The new tab switching is enabled by ticking the “When I open a link a new tab, switch to it immediately” option.

Search:-


The default search bar is “Google” search engine, which is also used by location and start bar. Other available search engines are Yahoo, Bing, Amazon.com, DuckDuckGo, eBay, Twitter and Wikipedia. You can also add more search engines by clicking on the link of search options.

Content:-


First, you can see the “Block pop-up windows” option. It helps to block the pop-up ads and other suspicious virus attacks. If you need to allow pop-up for some of your favorite and trusted websites, click on the “exceptions” button and add the exact url on the specified location. Here you can the font type, color, font size and Languages (English by default).

Applications:-



In this section, Mozilla Firefox synchronizes with the apps inside your operating system, which helps in easier browsing experience. Here recommended setting is “Always ask”.

Privacy:-


It is general privacy option of default Firefox tab page. Here you can tell the sites to I do not want to bet tracked. It helps to keep your private information safe from malicious websites. In History option, you set the firefox to Remember your browsing history or never or custom history settings.

Security:-


Firefox security options allows to install add-ons in safe way, blocks reported attack sites and web forgeries. The password manager is also included in this option and password manger tutorials are including soon.

Sync:-

The sync option helps to save your bookmarks, passwords, history online account of firefox and allows to access from any device or anywhere. You need to create an firefox account by using email id.

Mozilla Firefox Library

The firefox library manager contains 3-sub mangers such as history, Downloads and All bookmarks. Here you can organize, sort, import and backup your history and bookmarks. The history manager arranges the browsing history sorted in Today, Yesterday, 7-days and this month manner. The download manger contains the all download file list with your firefox browser. You can save bookmarks of your favorite sites by adding in newfolder or unsorted bookmarks. The import&backup option helps to import history from the other internet browsers and save the bookmarks on your harddisk or online storage.

Mozilla Firefox Add-ons Manager

Firefox add-ons manager enables to additional apps support for smoother and easy browsing. Here you can add extension apps and plugins, which helps to open different file formats in your browser page. If you need to add YouTube video downloader, you can use the add-ons manger. If you want different appearance, you can download different firefox themes from the internet.

New window:- It opens the new window for browser page with new tab. Home:- Smart switching to home page of browser as you set in homepage settings of general option. Save Page:- You can save web pages as you browsed. Print:- If you need to print the web page as you surfed, click on the print button in the sidebar. History:- It contains your all browsing history, cookies and cache. Full Screen:- If you need to read web page without any page distractions, click on the full screen option and it will automatically hide the titlebar, URL and search box. Find:- If you need to find the specific portion on a webpage, just enter in the find box. Developer:- Here you can open the developer tools. If you know coding languages such as CSS, XML etc, you can customize the browser as your need.

PowerISO Tutorials-3: How To Compress ISO Images

Do you know about how to compress ISO images using PowerISO v5.9? The compression of ISO image files means reducing the file size of the images by some percent as compared to original one. We can easily compress data like videos, musics, photos etc using the File compression softwares such as 7Zip, WinZip, WinRAR etc. Bt in case of ISO images, you can't use the file compression softwares. You need an ISO image compression software. Here is one of the example using PowerISO software, which is one of the best ISO file handler and contains multifunction such as Mount images, ISO image creation, CD/DVD burning, Bootable USB or Bootable CD/DVD maker, USB Image Maker etc.

Let's see how to compress ISO image in our PowerISO tutorial series.

Step-1

First, You must open PowerISO software from your Desktop/start menu by double clicking on them. If you don't have it, Download PowerISO Setup. After opening, the user-interface look like the image as shown below. Credits: Tecappvault

Step-2

Then, go to menu bar located just below the main header of powerISO user-interface and click on the "Tools". From the drag and drop menu select the "Compress" option , which present at the 13th position of drop menu. Click on it like the image shown below.

Step-3

Then dialogue box will appear which is look like image below. The dialogue box contains two parts "Source file" and "Destination file". Source File: Source file means the original ISO image as you want to reduce the size. Select your original ISO file. Destination File: It means the you need to show where to save size reduced ISO image file in your computer or Laptop. Just enter a name under "file name" section and select format *.daa or all files, whatever you need at the end.
Select Source --> Set destination --> Advanced Properties
If you need better ISO image compression, "Advanced Properties" are much recommended. It will show in the Step-4.

Step-4

Advanced Properties look like this. Under advanced properties, you need to select "compression method", is important for advanced ISO compression. By default it will set as "Normal". You also have available compression methods are "Better" and "Best (Slowest)". You can either select the better or best option. If you select the it will slightly reduce and improved compression results by selecting the "Best" option. But the image compression will slowest as compared with Normal or Better compression methods.

Additional Features

You can apply additional features such as password protection and splitting files to your new compressed ISO images from the same interface. If you need to protect ISO by using password tick the "Password protection" and enter password before clicking OK button. Split to Multiple volumes will be very helpful, if you want to compress bigger files greater than 10 GB. It will very helpful to split into equal volumes according to our need.
Note:- If you need to compress ISO images only, no need to apply the additional features listed above.

PowerISO Tutorial-2: Create ISO Image File

We know that most of the big size files of pc games, software’s etc are come with ISO image format. You can also create ISO image files using PowerISO software, does not matters your file either bigger or smaller. ISO image helps to keeps many files under one image file makes it easier to handle and prevents data loss or errors while copying it. PowerISO also support other image formats such as DAA, BIN, CUE etc. This article shows PowerISO tutorial about howto create ISO image file. PowerISO Tutorial About USB Image Creation Let us see the step-by-step guide for creating ISO image files.

Step-1

First, install PowerISO virtual manager software on your computer. If you don’t have the setup, Download PowerISO now. Open The PowerISO interface by double clicking on the desktop icon.

Step-2

From the user- interface click on “ADD” button and dialogue box will appear is shown in the below image. From that, select the files, as you want to make ISO image file and click on “add”. You can also drag your files into PowerISO for adding process. It will look like below image (just an example).

Step-3

From the menu bar, click on “File” menu and drag box will appear and select the “Image Properties” option as shown in the image below.

Step-4

Then an image properties dialogue box will appear. From that window, select “General” tab. Here you can set properties like ISO filename, CD/DVD File System and other miscellaneous options as shown the figure.

Step-5

Select the “Advanced” tab on that window and choose the “compression Method” you want in your ISO image file creation. It will contain Options like “Normal”, “Better” and “Best”. Normal means, default compression of your upcoming ISO image file. Better means small to medium level compression and best means high compression like 7Zip file compressor. The nice option is “Better”. Here you can encrypt your ISO image file with high security password and splitting of your files into multiple files is available. Note: If your file is too big NOT choose “Best” option, because it will take more time for ISO image creation.

Step-6

In the “Date/Time” tab, you can set the date and time of ISO creation as shown in the below figure and click “OK”.

Step-7

Again, click on “File” menu and select “Save As” as shown below in the figure.

Step-8

From the appearing dialogue box, select the “save as type” as “Standard ISO images (*.iso)” is shown below.

Step-9

Click on the “Save” button, then your ISO image file starts to create. The length of process depends on the file size, computer processor speed and RAM. This way you can simply create ISO image file using PowerISO virtual image manager software.

You can also create other image formats like DAA (Direct Access Archive), BIN/CUE etc in the Step-8. For that just select, the “Save as type” as you need as the output file and click “save”. It is developed by powerISO software Ltd and works perfectly on around all Windows operating systems. But most of them doesn't know about howto do or use PowerISO effectively and useful manner. This post is first version of step by step PowerISO Tutorials with images which shares howto make USB image file using PowerISO version 6. Let's starts to make USB image files using PowerISO virtual manager software.

Step by Steps 

1. First connect your pendrive to PC via USB, as you need to make the image file. Open the PowerISO software by double clicking the icon on your desktop. If you don't have this, click the above link to download it and install it using the downloaded powerISO setup. The below image shows the opened window or user-interface of PowerISO.

2. From the PowerISO menu bar, click on the "Tools" option shown below. From menu bar >> Tools

3. From the Tools drop down menu, select "Make USB Drive Image File".

4. Then another dialogue box is open and it is look like below image. From their select the"source drive". This option is to select the input pen drive as you want to make the image copy.

5. Then set the "Destination File", as you want to save the USB image on your PC harddisk. here just show the storage space in your PC. In this tutorial we save it into the "My Documents" section.

6. Name your image file using your keyboard and click save. By default the name is "image.img".


7. Then click "OK". then PowerISO starts to make USB image file from your pendrive.

How to use 7zip for Compressing Windows Files

We all know that 7Zip is one of the high compression ratios, open source software which helps to reduce file size. It is one of the useful free compression tool, allows saving your hard-drive space, send files via emails etc. In this tutorial, you are going to see that how to use 7zip to compress files like music, documents and videos. Let’s see how to compress using 7Zip compressor software.

Things Needed
  1. Computer
  2. 7Zip File Manager
  3. Study Files (e.g. music, documents or videos for compressing task)

Step-1 First, open the 7Zip compression software by double clicking 7Zip icon from desktop or start menu. Then you can see 7Zip user-interface shown below. If you don’t have this compression software click here to download 7Zip Manager.

Double click 7Zip icon (from Desktop or Start menu) >> 7Zip User-interface  

Step-2: From user-interface you can see my computer, documents, networks and other options like add, extract, copy, move etc. First go to the destination folder via 7Zip user interface, and select the files (Music, videos or documents) for compression is shown below. Browse your files via user-interface >> select files as you want to compress by clicking them. 

Note: If you want to select one or more files use “Ctrl” form keyboard. Step-3 Select files and click “Add” button. From the pop-up menu you can set the option for getting better compression, compression formats, compression methods, encryption etc. For getting better compression ratio:
  • Archive format: 7z
  • Compression level: Ultra
  • Compression Method: PPMd


Click “OK” button and compression is done within few minutes. Miscellaneous steps You can also set the password under encryption part. Choose highly secure password, if you want to protect your files from unauthorized users. You can also split bigger size files into small parts such as 10 MB, 650-CD,700-CD and 4480-DVD. You can create SFX files and shared files compression by checking the preferred boxes.

From this box, Tick on options, “Warn me when sites try to install add-ons, block reported attack sites and block reported web forgeries” which is also show in figure below. Web forgeries are normally considered as phishing, which mislead you and stole your personal information’s.

Private Browsing settings

Private browsing let you to browse through internet without saving any information about sites which you are previously surfed. It do not save information’s like visited pages, form and search bar entries, passwords, download list, cookies and cached web content. Note: Private browsing doesn’t mean that protection from threats. Sites or service provider can still track your browsing details. Two options available for Private Browsing.
  1. You can start private browsing just by clicking Firefox button and select “New Private Window”. Or you can open a unique link in private windows just by “right click mouse button” on that link and from the menu select “open link in New Private window”.
  2. Set your Browser always for private browsing from the settings.
For that, Click on Firefox button --> Options --> Select Privacy -->Set your settings Tick the “Tell websites I do not want to be tracked” option and also select the “Never remember history” from history option. Images are shown below.

  1. Select the “Firefox Button” and click on “Options”.
  2. Select “Sync” option and click on the “Firefox sync setup”.
  3. From that click on “Create New Account” button and provide details such as Email address enter your password, server, and complete CAPTCHA and agree the terms and conditions and privacy policy.
  4. Then you will see “Setup complete” and close the box.
